Desecration of a Quran by Military Cadets Repulsive

Posted on: 26 May 2018

Mississauga, ON, May 26, 2018 - We are saddened and disturbed to learn that students from
the Royal Military College in Saint-Jean, Quebec, allegedly desecrated a Quran, the holy book
of Muslims, at a cottage party.

Such acts of disrespect to any symbols of faith are uncalled for. The fact that a copy of Quran
was allegedly disrespected in a vile manner is against the Canadian values of inclusion,
diversity, and respect for all.

We hope that such disregard for cultural sensitivity by a few individuals entrusted to protect our
nation is an isolated occurrence.

We commend the courage of students who reported this repulsive incident to their superiors
based on a recorded video.

We also thank and appreciate General Lamarre and the Canadian Armed Forces for taking this
hate incident seriously. We are relieved to learn that the authorities have immediately taken
disciplinary action and have suspended the students allegedly involved.

We continue to pray for and work toward a more inclusive and diverse Canada for all.
