Remembering the Quebec Mosque Shooting

Posted on: 29 January 2018

January 29, 2018 marks the first anniversary of the worst terrorist attack at a place of worship on
Canadian soil, where we lost six brave men at the Centre Culturel Islamique de Québec in
Quebec City.

Lest we forget, we remember the sacrifices of these souls:

  • Azzedine Soufiane
  • Abdelkrim Hassane
  • Aboubaker Thabti
  • Ibrahima Barry
  • Khaled Belkacemi
  • Mamadou Tanou Barry

They were incredible fathers, husbands, and sons. They were known for their charity work, civic
leadership, and love for their faith.

We stand in solidarity with the families of these men whose lives were taken from them, as well
as with those who were injured during, or who witnessed, this attack.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue to heal. We commend you for showing
Canada and Canadian Muslims the true meaning of resilience, patience and grace.
We would like to also thank three Members of Parliament who have recently either visited ISNA
Canada or sent us their statements of support as we approach this anniversary: Our very own MP
Sven Spengemann (Mississauga-Lakeshore), MP Gagan Sikand (Mississauga-Streetsville), and
MP John Oliver (Oakville).

By joining together to mark the one-year anniversary of the attack, we reiterate our unwavering
unity against Islamophobia and hate, and any associated actions that would seek to divide us.
